  1. The Hashira: After battling the Upper Moon demons, Giyu Tomioka, Mitsuri Kanroji, Sanemi Shinazugawa, Gyomei Himejima, and Obanai Iguro are left to face Muzan. Muichiro Tokito and Shinobu Kocho were killed in their respective battles against Upper Moon demons. The remaining Hashira use their breathing techniques throughout the battle to try to kill Muzan or prevent him from escaping and harming the lower-ranked members of the Demon Slayer Corps. Sanemi and Giyu are the only two Hashira who survive the battle with Muzan until the end.
  2. Inosuke Hashibira, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Kanao Tsuyuri: The trio plays an instrumental role in Muzan’s defeat. Equipped with Yushiro’s talismans, they assist the Hashira in battling Upper Moon demons like Doma. Their combined efforts, alongside the Hashira, create openings for Tanjiro to deliver decisive blows to Muzan.
  3. Shinobu Kocho and Tamayo: At Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s request, Tamayo joins forces with the Demon Slayer Corps to help defeat Muzan. Together, they develop a drug that weakens Muzan through four stages. The first stage, which turns demons into humans, fails on Muzan but works on Tanjiro and Nezuko. The second stage accelerates aging, making Muzan age 9,000 years in just three hours. The third stage prevents Muzan from splitting into pieces to escape, and the fourth stage causes cellular destruction. Tamayo’s sacrifice allows the drug to take effect, significantly weakening Muzan.
  4. Tanjiro Kamado: As the main protagonist, Tanjiro plays the most crucial role in defeating Muzan. He perfects the Sun Breathing techniques and realizes that by using all 12 forms consecutively, he can access the 13th and strongest form. Tanjiro uses these techniques to stall Muzan until sunrise, which ultimately leads to Muzan’s death. Tanjiro also defeats Muzan in the battle in his mind space which was the last nail in the coffin for Muzan.

The battle’s climax coincides with dawn, exploiting Muzan’s vulnerability to sunlight. The Demon Slayers’ strategy to prolong the fight until daylight proves to be a turning point, as Muzan’s exposure to the sun accelerates his defeat. In a last-ditch effort, Muzan transforms into a baby-like form to seek shade, but with the combined efforts of all Demon Slayer Corps members, Muzan finally turns to dust.
