Demon Slayer has a rich and intricate storyline that includes many memorable characters who make selfless sacrifices for the greater good. Among these characters, the Ubuyashiki clan stands out for its dedication to vanquishing demons. Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, is the most notable figure from the Ubuyashiki Clan and played a crucial role in guiding the Demon Slayer Corps in their quest to eradicate demons.

Despite being cursed with a disease that limits his lifespan and causes a burn-like skin condition, he leads the Corps with unwavering resolve to eliminate Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King. The fate of Kagaya’s family becomes a touching part of the story, especially as the fight against the demon king, Muzan Kibutsuji, heats up.

The Ubuyashiki Family Background In Demon Slayer

The Ubuyashiki family, also known as the family of Oyakata-sama, has been plagued by a hereditary curse that has afflicted them for generations. The Ubuyashiki Family was cursed because their bloodline was responsible for creating the first demon, Muzan Kibutsuji.

As a result, every male child in the family is born with a disease that leads to an early death. This illness manifests as a burn-like skin condition that gradually spreads across the entire body, significantly reducing the lifespan. Despite this, the Ubuyashiki family has dedicated itself to leading the Demon Slayer Corps in their mission to defeat Muzan and protect humanity from the threat of demons.

The Fate of Kagaya Ubuyashiki and His Children

Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the 97th leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, is a calm and wise figure who commands immense respect from the Hashira and other Demon Slayers, but he harbors a deep hatred for Muzan. Muzan’s selfish actions caused the curse that afflicted the Ubuyashiki clan with an incurable disease. Kagaya has five children: Hinaki, Nichika, Kiriya, Kanata, and Kuina, who, despite their young ages, display remarkable maturity and dedication to their family’s mission.

Understanding the threat Muzan poses, Kagaya devises a plan to weaken him. In a heart-wrenching act of self-sacrifice, Kagaya, along with his wife Amane and their two eldest daughters, Hinaki and Nichika, detonates an explosion to damage Muzan, which also kills them and gives the Demon Slayer Corps an advantage. This act is heavily debated among fans. Some believe Kagaya went too far in sacrificing his children, while others see it as a necessary step to harm Muzan and give the Corps an edge in the final confrontation.

Personally, we think Kagaya’s decision was necessary. If his elder daughters hadn’t been there when Muzan appeared in the Ubuyashiki mansion, Muzan might have sensed something was wrong and avoided the trap. Hinaki and Nichika were likely aware of the plan and volunteered to stay with their parents until the end. This sacrifice allowed their demon ally, Tamayo, to inject Muzan with poison, which ultimately helped the Demon Slayer Corps defeat him. Kagaya believed his death would further motivate the Corps members to eliminate Muzan and the other demons.

After Kagaya’s death, his son Kiriya steps up as the new leader of the Demon Slayer Corps. Together with his sisters Kuina and Kanata, Kiriya helps the demon slayers navigate through the Infinity Castle, the stronghold where demons lurk at every corner. The Ubuyashiki clan possesses a unique ability to strategically allocate their forces, ensuring that each threat is met with the appropriate level of manpower. This tactical expertise proves crucial in their ongoing battle against the demons, allowing them to respond effectively to the ever-present dangers.

The Ubuyashiki family exemplifies the core values of the Demon Slayer Corps through their deep sense of duty and sacrifice. While Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s death is a significant blow, his legacy continues through his children, who step up to fulfill their family’s mission. Hinaki and Nichika, the eldest daughters of Kagaya, sacrifice themselves with their parents, while Kiriya, Kuina, and Kanata play key roles in defeating Muzan Kibutsuji and restoring peace after Muzan’s death.
